Extreme Home Makeover
Okay, it's probably not that extreme, actually. But I need opinions. I've had several home improvement projects on my mind for a long time now, and I just need to make up my mind. First up - the kitchen. We textured and painted the walls long ago, and the counters and cabinets need some work. The cabinets are all solid, sturdy, and functional, so I'm just painting them. But I cannot decide which of my two ideas to go with. I either want to paint them a muted white, then do a chocolate glaze (something like these)or just solid black - something like this:Here are a few pictures of the kitchen. In case the colors aren't true on all computers, the walls are olive green with a walnut glaze. The appliances are stainless, the floors are neutral, and the countertops aren't staying. Alright, what would you do?

I would probably go with the first option, the lighter cabinets. I just really like that look and I like light, airy feeling kitchens. I'm afraid the black would look too dark/too modern for my tastes - but that's just my humble opinion. However, the one drawback I can think of to the lighter cabinets is that they may not look that great until you get new countertops b/c there wouldn't be enough contrast between the color of the counters and cabinets. Post pictures whenever you get started!
Okay this is SO ironic. I have had a paint sample taped to my cabinets for a year now because I'm so scared to start! My two options were EXACTLY the same as yours...a light color with a chocolate glaze, or paint them black. I'm going black, I've decided. Here's why: first, i think they will be easier to keep looking clean, but most importantly, our appliances are stainless/black, my hutch is black, our dining chairs are black and we have many black accents including our fireplace. But, I've been to your house and I've seen your "setup" and I'm thinking the lighter choice might be better with what you're working with. It seems to me you have more greens/creams/browns in your house, right?
I'm excited to see your results, and I might need to recruit you to my house to help me out when you're done! HA!
My vote is muted white with chocolate glaze! Choice A! They will look very chic and won't show finger prints. I feel like the black might be more prone to chipping and will make the room look smaller because of the dark color.
DISCLAIMER: I have no skill in interior design. I'm just giving my opinion! :)
Sorry, I have to disagree with Charla. I would vote for the chocolate glaze because I think that with a toddler exploring and probably nicking everything it would show up more on the black. Plus, I think the chocolate glaze works better with the flow of your house :) Just my 2 cents!
I'm going with the lighter color. However- this is not an area I'm especially gifted in. I just like light, airy kitchens. Good luck with whatever you decide. :)
